BBQ’ing Norwegian Style

You really wouldn’t think that Norway was the sort of place for sunshine, swimming in the sea and BBQ’s…but it is!  Because the winters are so dark and cold, the Norwegians make the absolute most of the summers.  When the sun shines, everyone is on holiday.  The bikinis come out as does the suntan lotion and the millions of disposable BBQs that everyone buys when they go to the beach.

We cycled to Bygdøy, a very expensive island just west of Oslo, where all the museums and tourist spots are.  Just at the north west tip of the island there’s a beach off Holsts Vei and that’s where we went at the weekend.  It was packed…most people had the same idea.  Anyway, we packed a picnic, a BBQ, a bottle of wine and our Norwegian Course books and spent a few hours chilling.  We’re improving since our adventure on Hovedøya.  This time we bought a BBQ with us – next time we need to take swimming gear.
