It’s “Dinner For One” In Norway This Evening

Today, Norwegians across the land will be watching an old 1963 movie called “Dinner For One”.  It’s traditional to watch this movie the day before Christmas Eve and Norwegians find it hilarious.  It’s a comedy sketch written by British author Lauri Wylie and was filmed in a one take recording in 1963 by a German TV station.  Apparently it’s was most frequently repeated TV programme ever up until 1995 because many other countries watch the movie during this time including South Africa, Germany and Finland.

The bizarre thing is that Eliot and I had never seen this video before we moved to Norway.  Hope you enjoy!

  1. Haha, Yes we really enjoy this one. It is a tradition to watch it. I see it every year – a “must have” before x-mas. But I actually did not know it was called “dinner for one”. We call it “Grevinnen & Hovmesteren”. So this is only popular in Norway?
